Welcome to Sage!
Welcome! At Sage Solutions we are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year– a milestone worthy of celebration! For those of you who don’t know me, I am a Health Gerontologist, otherwise known as Healthy Aging Specialist. I have been working with elders and their families for over 20 years. Now, most families seek me out when they are in crisis. Which is rather unfortunate, as a crisis is costly, stressful and takes a lot of effort to stabilize a situation, but it just seems to be people’s nature.
I know how hard it is to look ahead with caring for one’s elder parents, or for ourselves and our own aging – and, quite frankly, I can honestly say it’s a good investment to work with an independent professional!! We provide the bridge between generations and present practical ways forward which are often solutions found outside of the family dynamic. We save families SO much stress and, ultimately, expense. One day, I hope to see our services as common as…hiring an attorney for legal assets or financial advisor for financial asset. Hiring a professional geriatric care manager for human assets, for growth and stability seems essential.
But, as I say, many people leave it until a crisis occurs.
Over the years, many adult children of elders have said to me in confidence ‘I really don’t want to end up like my parents, what can I do about it?” Elders too have said, “If I had known I would live this long, I would have done things differently.”
In my new blog, I will be sharing stories and tips about caring for aging parents but I also want to develop a conversation about how to care for yourself so that you don’t end up in a same or similar situation – I know it may sound daunting, this can be profound and deep work. Many of you are sandwiched between your children and elders both of whom call for your attention, or you may dealing with an illness in the family and feeling alone and overwhelmed. How I can help is through my understanding of the value of self-care. It is SO valuable! Picture yourself at sea in a sailboat … I can help you read the winds that will direct you towards increased vitality and a better quality of life. To get on course, to tackle the winds, to fine tune your direction, this is the self-care that we talk about.
Wherever you may be in your life’s journey, I hope my blogs inspire you to question and maybe even redefine your ideas about aging.
